Everton makes new Iwobi deal top priority

The Athletic says Everton are stepping up talks over a new deal for Alex Iwobi.

The Nigerian whose contract with the Toffees will expire June 2024 joined the club from Arsenal in August 2019 and has scored eight goals in 126 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Iwobi has been particularly brillaint for Everton since early 2022 and has started in every Premier League game the club has played thus far and this must have necessitated the Toffees’ desperation to tie him to a new deal.

The 26 year old Nigerian was recently linked to clubs in Turkey with reports in the Turkish media says the former Arsenal player is not happy at Goodison Park but Everton manager, Sean Dyche dismissed the rumour, insisting the player is happy at the club.

Everton are now prioritising stepping up on talks with the midfielder’s representatives over a new contract to keep hold of him.

There is however uncertainty over the club’s survival in the PremierLeague and this will be one of the permutations the Nigerian’s represenatives will have to consider.

Everton are currently 18th on the log with 22 points from 26 games.
