Favour Ashe seeking for redemption at SEC Indoor Championships in Arkansas

Reigning Nigeria king of speed, Favour Ashe will be hoping lightning will not strike twice when he takes to the track on Field in the 60m event at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The University of Tennessee transfer sprinter who is now with Auburn University will be looking to redeem himself after a false start at SECs a year ago at the Gilliam Indoor Track at College Station, Texas got him disqualified in the 60m event.

Ashe enters the championships as the fastest over the 60m in the SEC with a time of 6.53 set two weeks ago at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina.

The 20 year old has not finished lower than second place in his five appearances on the straightaway this term and holds a personal best of 6.51 in the event which he hopes to break in Fayeteville..

Ashe believes he can go under 6.50 and break his former coach, Deji Aliu’s 6.48 Nigeria 60m indoor record.

‘I am looking forward to lowering my personal best, at least doing 6.48, 6.49 and then know, yea… I want to be SEC Champion,’ he said in a video interview on his school’s twitter page.
If he succeeds, he will become the third Nigerian sprinter ever to run inside 6.50 in the 60m event after Aliu and Olusoji Fasuba (6.49).
