Femi Azeez Eyes Brighton Debut Against Manchester United

Femi Azeez could make his Brighton debut when the Seagulls face Manchester United in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third-round clash at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian-born forward is being assessed on a day-to-day basis after joining Brighton from Millwall at the end of the summer transfer window.

Should Azeez recover in time to feature, it would be his first appearance for the Premier League club but his second EFL Cup outing of the season.

The 25-year-old was involved in Millwall’s first-round tie against Queens Park Rangers, helping his former club progress on penalties.

Azeez will now be hoping to mark his Brighton debut with a goal if given the opportunity against United.

A goal at Old Trafford would also be his first in four EFL Cup appearances, although his record in England’s other major domestic cup competition shows his ability to find the net on the big stage.

Azeez has scored three goals in seven FA Cup appearances, underlining his pedigree in domestic cup football.

Brighton have no new injury concerns, with Georginio Rutter expected to be available, while Azeez remains the major fitness doubt ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will be without former Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, who is sidelined with an ankle injury. Amad Diallo and Manuel Ugarte are also unavailable.

United have progressed from both of their previous two EFL Cup meetings with Brighton, but the Seagulls have won four of their last five away games against the Red Devils in all competitions.

Brighton have also won five of their last six EFL Cup third-round ties, setting the stage for another intriguing meeting at Old Trafford.
