Fraser-Pyrce Storms To 10.67s World Lead In Nairobi
Omanyala runs 9.85s to win men's blue ribband event
Multiple World and Olympics champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pyrce of Jamaica raced to a 10.67s world lead to win the 100m event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, the 2022 Kip Keino Classic on Saturday in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Jamaican raced home first ahead of Egypt’s Hemida Bassant (11.02s) and Ray Shannon of USA (11.33s).
The much anticipated duel between Fraser-Pyrce and the new African sprint sensation, Christen Mboma was aborted Midway after the Namibian was forced to pull up due to injury and could not finish the race.
Mboma was the faster of the two before the event following her 10.97s run in Botswana at the end of last month while Fraser-Pyrce has only competed once and it was in the 200m event where she ran 22.79s also last month at the MVP Velocity Fest 11 in Kingston, Jamaica.
In the men’s version, home boy and reigning African record holder, Ferdinand Omanyala raced home first in a new 9.85s world lead.
The USA duo of Fred Kerley (9.92s) and Isiah Young (10.13s) came in second and third respectively.
The Kenyan, 26, has been outstanding since he ran a new 9.77s African record in September last year also in Nairobi.
He ran 9.98s last month in Johannesburg and has broken 10 seconds for the second time this season to move to the number one spot in the world 100m top list
