‘I Want to Say Goodbye’: Kevin Keegan Reveals Stage Four Cancer, Plans Emotional Farewell

Former Newcastle United manager and England legend Kevin Keegan has revealed he is battling stage four cancer, expressing his wish to bid an emotional farewell to supporters at St James’ Park.

The 75-year-old, who managed Newcastle during two separate spells and also coached Manchester City and England, disclosed his condition during a public appearance at the Tyne Theatre.

It marked his first outing since confirming his diagnosis earlier this year.

‘They said we have a top doctor with this new way of fighting what you have got. Which is stage four cancer,’ Keegan told the audience. ‘I want to say goodbye. I didn’t get the chance when I left the club last time.’

Keegan, who resigned as Newcastle manager in 2008 and vowed never to return while Mike Ashley remained owner, now hopes to make a poignant return following Ashley’s departure. His farewell is expected to take place at the start of the new season.

The former Ballon d’Or winner, celebrated for his charisma and attacking football philosophy, remains a beloved figure among Newcastle fans.
