Iheanacho gets five more games to score first league goal in 2024 after firing blank in Sevilla 1-0 loss at Leganes

Kelechi Iheanacho started his first LaLiga game in his second game in the competition since September but failed to score for all of the 73 minutes he was on the pitch at the Estadio Butarque where his side, Sevilla lost to their host, Leganes.

Iheanacho fired blanks in his sixth appearance in the competition since he joined Sevilla on a free transfer in July and has not scored any goal in the league, either in England or in Spain this calendar year.

The last time the 28-year-old scored in the league was in October last year when he netted in Leicester City’s 3-1 win at Swansea City in a Sky Bet Championship game.

The Nigerian now has just five league games left in 2024 to avert setting an unwanted record of not scoring in the league in a calendar year and in 14 months.

The former Manchester City man will be hoping to turn a new page on his career when Sevilla host Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan after the international break.

After that, the Super Eagle can still hope to score against any of Osasuna at home, Atletico Madrid away, Celta Vigo at home and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu three days before Christmas.
