Nigerian Fires Hoops to Victory Over Hibs
Celtic moved level with Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a dramatic 2-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road, with substitute Kelechi Iheanacho once again proving the difference.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score the decisive goal in the 72nd minute, calmly side-footing home from a corner to restore Celtic’s lead and underline his growing reputation as the Hoops’ ‘super sub.’
Celtic dominated the opening stages, with Daizen Maeda threatening early before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 41st minute. His close-range finish was initially ruled offside, but VAR overturned the decision to give Celtic a deserved lead.
Hibernian, reduced to 10 men after Jamie McGrath’s red card, found a lifeline in first-half stoppage time when Joe Newell prodded home following a scramble in the box.
After a lengthy VAR review, the goal stood, sending the sides in level at the break.
Manager Martin O’Neill turned to his bench in search of a breakthrough, and Iheanacho delivered almost instantly. Meeting Kieran Tierney’s corner inside the box, he showed composure to slot past Jordan Smith and secure the points for Celtic.
