Iheanacho Makes Alan Shearer’s EPL Team Of The Week

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been named in Premier League legend, Alan Shearer’s matchweek 22 team of the week after theNigerian scored once and provided two assists in his club’s 4-2 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 26 year old marked his return to Premier League starting line up since September 2022 with a man of the match performance in a match that also saw the Foxes’ return to Premier League winning ways since November 2022.

Shearer named the Nigerian alongside Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in a 3-4-3 formation.

“(Iheanacho) marked his first start since September with a goal and two assists,’ wrote Shearer about the Nigerian who created two big chances and made two key passes plushis two assists and one shot on target which led to his only goal and was named the official man-of-the-match by the Premier League.

Iheanacho will be the third Nigerian player who has been named in Shearer’s team of the week in the ongoing season. The other two are Alex Iwobi of Everton (matchweek 8) and Nothingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Leicester City has now scored twice in the Premier League this season and both goals came in the two starts he has made. Overall, it is his 39th Premier League goal in 183 games.
