Iheanacho nets for the third straight FA Cup game
Nigeria scores 18th goal in 24 games, but Leicester crash out of competition
Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the third straight FA Cup game but his goal was not enough as his club, Leicester City lost 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers Tuesday night.
It was the Foxes first home FA Cup defeat against a side from a lower division for the first time since March 2001, when they lost 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers.
Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers bizarely benched the Nigerian for the first 45 minutes of action and the visitors scuck once through Tyrhys Dolan in the 33rd minute.
Blackburn struck again seven minutes after the restart through Sammie Szmodics to make it 2-0.
Needing the Foxes’ hero in the competition to come and rescue an already bad situation, Rodgers brought in Iheanacho six minutes after the vistors second goal and the 26 year old needed only nine minutes on the field to strike and reduced the deficit but it was too late to rescue the game.
The Nigerian’s goal was his 18th in 24 appearances in the competition with 13 of the goals netted when he switched from Manchester City to Leicester City in August 2017.
The goal also extended his reign as the all-time leading scorer in the FA Cup since January 2016.
