‘Injured’ Umar Sadiq Named In Real Sociedad Squad For Copa Del Rey Game At Osasuna

Umar Sadiq, sent home from Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON team on Friday with a reported knee injury has been named in Real Sociedad’s squad to play
Osasuna in a Copa del Rey round of 16 game at the Estadio El Sadarin Pamplona, Navarre, Spain.

The 26 year old made the Super Eagles’ final 25-man squad for AFCON but Super Eagles medical team advised the team’s technical crew the former Almeria
forward would not be fit for the competition which started last Saturday.

Sadiq returned to Spain and two days later he was involved in first team training at his club and has now been listed in the team to play Osasuna.

The ‘injured’ Sadiq has scored twice and bagged an assist in 22 games across all comptitions for Real Sociedad so far this term.

The Nigerian will be hoping for his first start in three Copa Del Rey games this season and score his first goal in the competition this season.

He has scored thrice in seven games in the Copa Del Rey but the goals came in the colours of his former club, Almeria.

He has featured 25 times for Real Sociedad since he joined from Almeria in September 2022. He has scored thrice and provided just one assist across all competitions.
