Manchester City’s 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League has set a new record as the most valuable football match in Transfermarkt history, with the starting XIs of both teams boasting a combined market value of €1.84 billion.
The Champions League league-phase encounter on Wednesday saw PSG fight back from a goal down to secure an impressive victory, with Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé among the scorers, while Erling Haaland netted twice for City.
According to Transfermarkt, Manchester City’s starting line-up was valued at €1.02 billion, while PSG’s was worth €818 million, taking the combined figure to €1.84 billion.
The valuation surpassed the previous record of €1.76 billion, set when Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in LaLiga in October 2025.
Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in late 2025 ranks third, with a combined starting-line-up value of €1.68 billion.
A Spanish Super Cup meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona in January 2025 occupies fourth place, while Real Madrid’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Manchester City in February 2025 ranks fifth at €1.67 billion.
Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in April 2025 is sixth at €1.64 billion, followed by their 3-3 draw with Manchester City in April 2024, valued at €1.63 billion.
Another Real Madrid-Arsenal encounter in April 2025, which ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Spanish giants, also had a combined market value of €1.63 billion to rank eighth.
Real Madrid’s Club World Cup final against PSG in the summer of 2025 takes ninth place at €1.61 billion, while their Champions League quarter-final victory over Manchester City in early 2024 completes the top 10 at €1.58 billion.
The rankings highlight the financial power of Europe’s leading clubs, with Real Madrid featuring in nine of the 10 most valuable matches recorded by Transfermarkt before the Manchester City-PSG encounter established the new benchmark.
