‘My U20 girls are 90% home based,’ says Falconets coach, Danjuma

Falconets of Nigeria coach, Christopher Danjuma is delighted with his team’s 4-0 bashing of the Venezuela U20 girls in their last group game of the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in Colombia.

While the victory ensured Nigeria has now reached the knockout stage of the competition for the 10th time, Venezuela remain in search of their first win at an U-20 Women’s World Cup.

“It’s a fantastic feeling, and we don’t want to just win but also to play good football. We have a lot of talents that we want the world to see, and this is an opportunity to see those talents because 90% of them are from the local league, they are not professionals coming from anywhere in Europe,’ said Danjuma who will lead the Falconets out on Thursday for their first knockout phase game.

Falconets dominated the game against Venezuela with Chiamaka Okwuchukwu scoring one and setting up another two as Joy Igbokwe grabs a late stunner to steer Nigeria to second.

Amina Bello opened scoring for the Falconets by burying a delightful cut-back from the lively Okwuchukwu.

Okwuchukwu, the provider turned scorer when she rose to meet a corner that had been played short and then whipped in to make it 2-0 just shy of the half hour.

Another delightful ball from the eye-catching Okwuchukwu saw Flourish Sabastine sweep home to send Nigeria to the break three goals to the good.

Substitute Joy Igbokwe sent in a rocket from all of 40 yards that flew over Venezuela goalkeeper, who was off her line, to cap a dominant performance.
