Napoli 2-2 AS Roma: Osimhen nets sixth Serie A penalty of career

Victor Osimhen scored from the penalty spot for Napoli but it was not enough to give the Partenopei all three points against AS Roma at the Armando Maradona stadium Sunday evening.

The Nigerian thought he had given his club victory in the matchweek 34 clash after netting with just six minutes left in regulation but another ‘Nigerian;, Tammy Abraham ensured the stage and the spotlight were not for Osimhen alone.

The goal was Osimhen’s 14th of the season in 22 appearances and his sixth penalty in the Serie since he scored his first in May 2023 to give Napoli a 1-0 win over ACF Fiorentina.

He has also scored against Sampdoria, Sassuolo, Fiorentina again and now AS Roma while he has missed thrice against Bologna, Fiorentina and Juventus.

It was however his first of the year and it takes the 25 year old to third in the race for Serie A top scorer’s for the season, nine behind Inter Milan’s Argentina forward,Lautaro Martinez and just two behind Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus.

The Nigerian made history last season when he became the first African to top score in the Serie A with his 26 goals from 32 matches.
