Rodri, Walker: We are on the threshold of Premier League history
Man City duo of Rodri and Kyle Walker are not celebrating yet as they still need to go past West Ham in their final game of the 2023/24 Premier Leagues season to make history.
The Cityzens are bidding to become the first club to win four straight Premier League titles and made a huge step towards achieving that by defeating Tottenham 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium Tuesday evening in north London.
“We know it isn’t done and it is going to be tough but we are going to be in front of our own supporters. We need their support because we need one last effort. If we can do it we can make history,’ said Rodri after the game.
The Man City midfielder says the result has given them the opportunity to fight for the title again.
The Cityzens sit top of the Premier League table heading into the final day of the season for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, with the exception of 2019/20, going on to win the title in each of those previous campaigns.
“It is unbelievable for us, it has given us the opportunity to fight again in the last game. We know it is still one more game. It wasn’t our best performance but we came here to win and that is what we’ve done. Stefan came on and saved us. He was simply incredible. I have no words,’ said Rodri.
Walker also believes the title is not won yet.
“It was very difficult with the emotions riding on it but the lads did the job they needed to do. It is one step closer. You have to take every game as it comes. We had a job to do tonight but we know how things can swing.
“We prepare, we recover and West Ham is another final and hopefully we can go and make history for this great club. It is not job done by a million miles. Hopefully we can get the win. If I didn’t enjoy the pressure, I would be in the wrong job and the wrong team.’
