Ndidi and Iheanacho’s Former Club, Leicester City, Relegated to League One
Leicester City, the former club of Nigerian internationals Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, have been relegated to League One, just ten years after their historic Premier League title triumph.
The Foxes’ fate was sealed following a 2-2 draw with Hull City at the King Power Stadium, confirming back-to-back relegations and a dramatic fall from grace.
The East Midlands side, who famously defied 5,000-1 odds to win the Premier League in 2016, now find themselves in the third tier for only the second time in their 142-year history.
Ndidi and Iheanacho both played pivotal roles during their time at Leicester.
Ndidi featured 303 times, scoring 18 goals, with 220 appearances and seven goals coming in the Premier League. Iheanacho netted 61 goals in 232 appearances, including 30 goals in 150 Premier League games, 13 in 19 FA Cup matches, and 8 in 20 EFL Cup outings.
Against Hull, Leicester’s survival hopes briefly flickered when Jordan James converted a penalty and Luke Thomas volleyed home to give the Foxes hope. But Oli McBurnie’s equaliser crushed their chances, despite late efforts from Patson Daka and Aaron Ramsey.
The result leaves Leicester condemned to League One, completing a stunning reversal of fortunes for a club once celebrated as English football’s greatest underdog story.
