NFF sack Waldrum, Back Peseiro Over Players Invitation For Sao Tome Clash

The board of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has confirmed there will be no renewal of contract for Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum and
affirmed support for Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro for inviting foreign-based players for the AFCON 2023 qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

The NFF, at its Board resolved to be thorough and ensure meritocracy in the composition of new coaching crews for the various Women National Teams (Super
Falcons, Falconets and Flamingos) within the shortest possible time, as the Super Falcons and Falconets have crucial qualifying fixtures for major
championships in a matter of weeks.

Waldrum, who led Nigeria to an impressive outing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023, in which the team reached the
Round of 16 and exited the tournament without losing a match in regulation period, had confessed he would like to remain as the team’s head coach.

The NFF board also expressed support for the decision of Peseiro to invite overseas-based players for the AFCON 2023 qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe, stating that the match was an opportunity for the team to train and bond together ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches starting in November and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals early next year.
