Nigeria 4x100m relay team no show at Tom Jones Invitational in Florida

The Nigeria women’s 4x100m relay team did not show up for the event at the Tom Jones Invitational meeting Saturday in Florida despite being listed for the event.

The Nigerian was scheduled to run from lane nine in the first of five heats at the Percy Beard stadium in Gainesville but the unnamed quartet did not show as USA Red team made up 0f the quartet of Mikiah Brisco, Abby Steiner, Jenna Prandini and Aleia Hobbsran 41.94 to win in the overall classification followed by another USA team, White (41.99) with the Louisiana State University team complete with Nigeria’s Tima Godbless (third leg) third in 43.05.

The Nigerian team may have found it difficult to raise a team following the athletes decision (as student athletes on scholarship) to compete for their respective universities.

Why Godbless was in the LSU team, the duo of Rosemary Chukwuma and Success Umukoro competed for the Texas Tech University team that ran 43.35 to finish ninth in the overall classification.

Even Baylor University’s Imaobong Nse Uko that could have been drafted to compete for the Nigerian team was in action for her university, running second leg for the team that ran 44.41 to finish 15th overall.

The duo of Favour Ofili and Tobi Amusan could not be drafted albeit they were also at the meeting with the former running 22.33 to win the 200m event and punched her ticket to this summer’s Paris Olympics.
