Nuggent hurdles to 7.75 World 60m Hurdles Lead in Lievin

Ackera Nugent, the Jamaican who supplanted Olympic 100m hurdles champion, Masai Russell of the USA as the fastest in the event in 2024 is now the fastest over the 60m hurdles.

Nuggent sped home first at the World Athletics indoor tour gold in Lievin, France on Thursday night to become the fastest woman in the event this year and gave a hint of a possible world record at the World indoor championships in Nanjing, China next month.

The Jamaican ran 7.82 seconds, same time as USA’s Grace Stark to qualify for the final where she ran a lifetime best to supplant Russell as the world leader in the 60m hurdles.

Russell ran 7.76 at the Millrose Games last week to become the fastest woman in the event pre-World indoor championships but Nuggent, like she did after the Olympics when she ran 12.24 at the Diamond League meeting in Rome to end the year as the fastest woman in the high hurdles, proved she is for real.

Bahamaian Devynne Charlton holds the World indoor record at 7.65 but holds a personal season’s best of 7.83.
