Ofili and Chukwuma ranked as outsiders by Track and Field News
As 2023 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships begin in Austin, Texas
Nigerias’s 200m record holder indoors and out, Favour Ofili and 2023 100m leader, Rosemary Chukwuma have been ranked out of the medal zone as the 2023 NCAA
Track and Field Outdoor Championships start Wednesday at the Mike Myers stadium in Austin, Texas.
Ofili, silver medal winner in the championships behind Aby Steiner last year is ranked 10th in Track and Field News’ collegiate form chart coming to the
championships with her 22.58 personal season’s best.
The 20 year old has been struggling for form since she came back from an injury that kept her away for a month after her impressive outing indoors, headlined
by the 22.11 lifetime best she ran in the 200m.
If Track and Field News’ prediction comes, true, it will mean Ofili’s bid to become the second Nigerian woman to win the 200m title in the history of the
championships after Mary Onyali in 1988 will not be realised.
Track and Field News has also predicted Chukwuma, who holds holds an 11.09 personal season’s best, will not make the podium.
This will mean Blessing Okagbare (2010) will remain the only Nigerian to have won the women’s 100m title in NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships.
