Ofili to race in 300m in Boston as Brume and Usoro battle American duo in Long Jump
Favour Ofili will officially race in the 300m event Sunday for the first time in her career at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix as she makes her debut in the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series.
The 21 year old will face American duo of Gabby Thomas, silver medalist in the 200m event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary and Lynna Irby-Jackson, Olympic 4x100m gold medalist from Tokyo.
Also listed for the event is Belgium’s 400m champion, Helena Ponette.
Ofili has competed just once this season, coming first in the 200m event (22.87) at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas last month.
Meanwhile, it will be a battle of Nigeria Vs United States of America in the women’s long jump as the Nigerian duo of Ruth Usoro and Ese Brume will compete against Quanesha Burks and Tara Davis-Woodhall.
Both Usoro and Brume, finalists at the World Indoor Championships in 2022 will be competing in the long jump event for the first time this sason.
While Usoro competed in the triple jump event at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, Brume ran 24.78 in the 200m at the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston, Texas.
The other Nigerian that will compete in Boston is former World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan.
Amusan will be competing in the 60m hurdles for the second time this season after setting a new 7.77 seconds African record in Astana, Kazakhstan last month.
The 26 year old will battle world leader in the event, Devynne Charlton (7.75 season’s best), American duo Tia Jones (7.80 season’s best) and Masai Russell (7.89 season’s best); Briton Cindy Sember, Jamaica’s Megan Tapper and Canadian, Mariam Abdul-Rashid.
