Osimhen shifts focus to Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier

Eagles star on track to become the first African to win the Serie A Golden Boot

Victor Osimhen has shifted focus to Nigeria’s 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Guinea-Bissua after netting a brace to lead Napoli to a 4-0 demolition of Ola Aina’s Torino Sunday evening in Turin.

The 24 year old who has taken his total tally in the Serie A this term to 21 goals so far this season took to his social media page (twitter) after the game to reveal he has shifted his focus to the AFCON qualifier.

‘Another win, another brace. Focus now on the game against Guinea-Bissau. God is the greatest,’ he wrote on twitter.

Osimhen has scored 15 times in 23 appearances for Nigeria with 10 of the goals coming in eight AFCON qualifiers.

He is set to become the highest African goalscorer in the Serie A following his brace on Sunday which has taken him just a goal away from equalling George Weah’s record (46 goals).

Osimhen has now equalled Samuel Eto’o as the African player with the most goals in a single Serie A season.

He has moved clear of Simy Nwankwo (20) as the top scoring Nigerian in a single Serie A season.

The Nigeria international is among just three players who have scored 20+ league goals in Europe’s top five divisions this season.

The other two are Manchester City’s Erling Haaland who has netted 28 Premier League goals in 26 appearances and Tottenham’s Harry Kane who has scored 20 times in 27 games.
