Osimhen, Yekini Lead Attack in Troost-Ekong’s All-Time Super Eagles XI

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has unveiled his all-time Nigeria XI, blending legendary figures with players from his own generation.

The 32-year-old defender, who retired from international football before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, revealed his selections during an appearance on SuperSport Unplugged in South Africa, where he is working as a pundit for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Troost-Ekong explained that his choices were shaped not only by historical achievements but also by personal experiences playing alongside certain stars.

In attack, Troost-Ekong opted for a formidable strike partnership of the late Rashidi Yekini and current Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen. He praised Osimhen’s record-breaking trajectory, predicting that the Super Eagles star could surpass every major scoring milestone for Nigeria.

His midfield featured a blend of flair, leadership, and discipline, with Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha and Victor Moses on the wings, while John Obi Mikel and Sunday Oliseh anchored the central positions.

Troost-Ekong’s defensive selections included former captains Stephen Keshi and Joseph Yobo at centre-back, Taiye Taiwo at left-back, and a surprise choice of Ola Aina at right-back.

Acknowledging that the pick might spark debate, he described Aina as a ‘fantastic player’ deserving of recognition.

In goal, Troost-Ekong named Vincent Enyeama, citing his personal admiration for the former Lille shot-stopper.

The former Watford and Udinese defender admitted that his line-up was partly influenced by personal connections, but emphasized that each player chosen represented the best of Nigerian football across generations.
