Premier League Head-To-Head: Arteta 0-6 Guardiola!

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta extended his winless record against Pep Guardiola and Man City after the Cityzens came to the Emirates stadium on Wednesday evening, saw and gunned down the Gunners in a Premier League top of the table clash.

Arteta failed to defeat Guardiola and Man City on his sixth attempt as the visitors became the only club the Spaniard has failed to beat as a Premier League manager.

Arteta was named Arsenal’s manager in December 2019 and lost his first meeting against his former employers towards the end of the 2019/20 season, crashing 3-0 at the Etihad on June 17, 2020.

The Arsenal manager faced Man City and Guardiola again in October of the same year and lost 1-0 also at the Etihad.

Interestingly, the victory came after Arsenal knocked Man City out of the FA Cup at the semifinal stage.

Arteta lost at home to the Cityzens and Guardiola for the first time in the Premier League in February 2021 courtesy of a Raheem Sterling headed goal on two minutes.

The Spaniard suffered his biggest defeat to his former boss and former employer in August of 2021, losing 5-0 at the Etihad with Ferran Torres scoring twice.

Arsenal and Areta were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates on New Year’s day in 2022 before Wednesday night’s 3-1 defeat also at the Emirates.
Overall, Areta has won just once in nine games against Man City and Guardiola

Wednesday night’s defeat could be ominous for the Gunners for it was only the third time in Premier League history that second place would beat first place in a match to overtake them in the table at least half-way into a season, after Chelsea v Man United (April 2010) & Man City v Man United (April 2012) – both of whom went on to win the title.

Arsenal have now lost their last 11 Premier League games against Manchester City; their longest losing run against an opponent in their league history.
