Rhasidat Adeleke Returns To The Bowerman Watch List

University of Texas’ Rhasidat Adeleke has returned to The Bowerman Women’s Watch List released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The 20 year old Irish-Nigerian is making his second Watch List appearance following her spectacular start to the 2023 NCAA outdoor season.

She has run just two individual events outdoors so far this season– 49.60 in the 400m to become No. 6 collegian all-time a lifetime best of 22.38 in the 200m at the Tom Jones Memorial.

At the Texas Relays two weeks earlier, Adeleke was in her University’s relay teams that set three setting Competition records viz 42.00 in 4×100m where she ran the third leg), 1:28.78 in the 4×200 where she ran the second leg and 3:36.10 in the sprint medley (second leg).

She anchored the 4×400 team to victory in her fourth relay race with a 49.47 split.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili failed to make the top 10 watch list for the second consecutive time.

The 20 year old is one of three athletes who received votes from The Bowerman Watch List Committee but fell outside the Top 10.

Ofili is yet to compete since she made her outdoor-season debut at the Battle on the Bayou on March 25 when she ran in the women’s 4×100m relay, clocking a time of 43.27 seconds.

The NCAA indoor championships 200m silver medal winner has appeared on the watch list or received votes for the list each week of the indoor and outdoor season so far.

The Bowerman award is collegiate track & field’s highest honor which will be awarded in December at the USTFCCCA Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Only marks from the 2023 indoor or outdoor collegiate track & field seasons are to be considered for the award.
