Ronaldo’s Struggles Overshadow Portugal’s Win Against Nigeria

Cristiano Ronaldo’s much-anticipated start in Portugal’s Pre-World Cup friendly against Nigeria ended in disappointment, as the 41-year-old icon struggled to make an impact before being substituted in the second half.

Ronaldo attempted four shots but missed three clear chances and failed to win any duels, a performance that highlighted his lack of sharpness.

He was replaced in the 64th minute by Gonçalo Ramos, drawing frustration from fans who took to social media to call him ‘washed’ and lament that ‘our dream is over.’

The veteran forward’s struggles have sparked concern among supporters, especially as he failed to score in both of Portugal’s warm-up matches.

While some fans directed criticism at Ronaldo, others pointed to the team’s overall erratic display, describing their finishing as poor and inconsistent.

Despite Ronaldo’s difficulties, Portugal secured a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Nigeria. Pedro Neto opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, before Akor Adams equalized for Nigeria. Francisco Conceição restored Portugal’s lead in the 75th minute, sealing back-to-back wins after their earlier triumph over Chile.

The result ensures Portugal head into the FIFA World Cup on a winning note, but Ronaldo’s form remains a pressing question.
