Tima Godbless set to make World Championships debut

Alaba Akintola also in the mix for a place in Nigeria's team to Budapest

Barring any last minute changes, reigning Nigeria U20 100m record holder and National Sports Festival double sprint champion, Tima Seikeseye Godbless is among the 48 athletes that will start the race for the medals in the 100m event at the World Athletics Championships which holds later this month in Budapest, Hungary.

Godbless is provisionally through to the championships following her 1196 ranking score which ranks her the 45th qualifier pending when World Athletics releases the final list of the 48 athletes that will compete in the event.

The 19 year old is listed as the third Nigerian qualifier with Grace Nwokocha and Rosemary Chukwuma. Her chances will however be boosted by the time World Athletics removes Nwokocha’s name following her provisional suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit for an anti-doping rule violation.

Godbless’ points were boosted by the 11.09 she ran at the World U20 Championships last year in Cali, Colombia.

Also through to the championships is another sprinter, Alaba Akintola whose ranking score of 1199 makes him the 42nd qualifier (and second Nigerian behind Udodi Onwuzurike).

Alaba will also be making his competitive debut in the championships.
