Watford 3 – 2 West Brom: Maduka Okoye missing for the 33rd time in the Championship!
Maduka Okoye’s chances of getting an invite for Nigeria’s 2024 African Nations Cup qualifying double header against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in March became slimmer Monday night after he was not listed for Watford’s Championship game against Semi Ajayi’s West Brom at the Vicarage Road stadium.
Okoye joined the Hornets in the summer of 2022 following his move from Dutch Eredivise side, Sparta Rotterdam.
The Nigerian featured 58 times for the Dutch Eredivise side, conceeded 75 times and kept 17 clean sheets.
The 23 year old has however been reduced to a bit-part player in England and has featured just twice in Cup games viz Watford’s 2-0 loss to visiting MK Dons in the EFL (Carabao) Cup game last August and another 2-0 loss this time in the FA Cup third tie against Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium last month.
In the Championship, the second-tier of English football, Okoye is still waiting to make her debut after 33 games.
He has made the bench in 19 of the 33 games and was not listed in the remaining 14 matches.
Meanwhile, Semi Ajayi was an unsed substiute for the visitors who lost 3-2 to their host despite coming back twice to draw level.
Ajayi, 29, lost is place in West Brom after returning from a ligament Injury that kept him out of nine Championship games between September and October 2022.
The Super Eagles defender started six of West Brom’s first seven games before the injury and has featured just twice since his return in October, playing for two and six minutes against Reading and Luton Town respectively last month.
