‘A Principled Visionary’: Gumel Pays Tribute to Late Ibrahim Galadima
The Nigerian sports community is mourning the loss of Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, a towering figure whose influence spanned football administration, Olympic leadership, and grassroots development.
Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), described Galadima’s passing as both a national and personal loss. In a heartfelt tribute, Gumel said:
‘Ibrahim was a brother, a confidant, and a dependable ally in our collective quest to put Nigeria on the global sporting map. His exit leaves a vacuum that will be incredibly difficult to fill. He was a man of immense grace, even in the face of the most daunting administrative challenges.’
Galadima, a former Patron of the NOC and Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was widely respected for his principled leadership. During his tenure at the NFF, he championed transparency and professionalism, setting standards that reshaped football governance in Nigeria.
As Patron of the NOC, he provided stability and wisdom, ensuring that the ideals of Olympism were upheld across federations. His contributions to sports development in Kano State also left a lasting legacy, serving as a blueprint for grassroots management and nurturing of young talent.
Gumel emphasized Galadima’s vision and integrity, calling him a ‘principled visionary’ who dedicated his life to elevating Nigerian sports.
The NOC extended condolences to the Galadima family, the Government and people of Kano State, and the global sports community.
Gumel prayed for the Almighty to grant Galadima eternal rest and Al-Jannah Firdaus, noting that his name is ‘forever etched in the annals of Nigerian sports history.’
