Chukwueze Targets Historic FA Cup Goal as 52nd Nigerian Scorer
Samuel Chukwueze is set to make his first appearance in the FA Cup when Fulham face Championship side Southampton in the fifth round on Sunday, with the winger hoping to etch his name into history as the 52nd Nigerian to score in the competition.
The AC Milan loanee has already impressed in the Premier League this season, netting three goals and providing four assists in 15 appearances for the Cottagers.
His debut in England’s oldest domestic cup could mirror the impact of compatriot Tolu Arokodare, who became the 51st Nigerian to score in the FA Cup when he struck and assisted in Wolves’ emphatic 6-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in January.
Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will also be aiming to add to their FA Cup tallies.
Iwobi, who has featured 22 times in the competition and has scored once, is still chasing his first goal against Southampton, having failed to score in his previous FA Cup meeting with the and across 16 matches in all competitions against the Saints.
Bassey, on the other hand, will be looking to notch his second goal in the tournament.
With Fulham pushing for a place in the quarter-finals, Chukwueze’s potential breakthrough could not only boost his club’s campaign but also extend Nigeria’s rich scoring tradition in the FA Cup.
