Fenerbahçe Target Iheanacho As Bursaspor Demand ‘Absurd’ Offer

Fenerbahçe are reportedly targeting Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho as they look to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window and end their wait for the Turkish Süper Lig title.

According to Turkish broadcaster HT Spor, the Istanbul giants are preparing to make a move for the Bursaspor forward, who has emerged as one of the standout performers in Turkey’s second tier following his arrival from Celtic at the beginning of the season.

The 30-year-old has made an immediate impact, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists in 12 league appearances for Bursaspor.

Iheanacho’s impressive form has reportedly attracted Fenerbahçe’s interest, although any potential deal could depend on whether the Istanbul club are prepared to meet Bursaspor’s valuation of the former Leicester City and Manchester City striker.

Bursaspor president Enes Çelik has acknowledged that the club could consider selling the Nigerian if an extraordinary offer arrives, despite his preference to retain the forward as they pursue their ambitions this season.

Speaking to Gol TV, Çelik admitted that Iheanacho’s goalscoring ability makes him difficult to replace but insisted that the club’s management must also consider its financial interests.

‘If a survey is conducted, it will be concluded with 99% certainty that he should not be sold. I understand this, but we are not just on the emotional side. We also have to look at the issue within the framework of logic,’ Çelik said.

‘Iheanacho is a man who scores goals when there are no chances. I would like him to stay in the team the most. But there may be absurd figures here. If it happens, we will consider it as management.’

The Bursaspor president declined to disclose a specific asking price but indicated that any acceptable offer would have to be substantial enough to satisfy all parties.

‘He is not a football player who can easily leave us. In the meantime, he wants to bring a lot of money to the club. A good character indeed,’ Çelik added.

‘It would not be right to give a figure, but if there is a figure that will satisfy everyone, you can be sure that it will be a figure that will be said, ‘This figure will also be given’. I hope his performance will continue and he will lift the championship trophy.’

Iheanacho joined Bursaspor on a free transfer from Scottish champions Celtic at the start of the season and is contracted to the Turkish club until 2029.
