NWFL Fines Osun Babes ₦2.5M Over Jersey Violation and Fixture Default

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has imposed a ₦2.5 million fine on Osun Babes FC following regulatory breaches that prevented the commencement of their Premiership fixture against FC Robo Queens in Lagos.
The match, scheduled for Wednesday, February 18 at Onikan Stadium, was declared a walkover in favor of FC Robo Queens after Osun Babes, designated as the away team, failed to provide an alternative set of jerseys with clearly printed names and numbers despite a confirmed colour clash with the home side.
The NWFL determined that Osun Babes’ actions contravened multiple provisions of its regulatory framework. Article 10.3 requires clubs to use second-choice colours for away matches to resolve clashes, while Article 10.5 mandates that the away team must wear alternative colours if the home club is in its registered first-choice kit.
Furthermore, Article 14.7 stipulates that failure to honor a fixture without force majeure or acceptable justification constitutes a violation.
In line with these rules, Osun Babes has been fined ₦1,000,000 for the jersey violation and ₦1,500,000 for failing to fulfill the fixture, bringing the total sanction to ₦2,500,000.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, emphasized the importance of compliance:
‘The NWFL remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline. Our regulations are clear, and all clubs are expected to meet their obligations fully. These measures are necessary to protect the integrity and credibility of the league and are not punitive for their own sake.’
The NWFL reiterated its commitment to fair play, discipline, and orderly conduct of matches, reminding all Premiership clubs of their responsibility to strictly adhere to league rules and operational requirements to avoid future sanctions.
