Onyedika Rejects New Club Brugge Contract as Frankfurt Move Gathers Momentum
Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika has reportedly turned down several attempts by Belgian champions Club Brugge to extend his contract, with the midfielder now appearing increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
According to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Club Brugge have made repeated efforts in recent weeks to convince the 25-year-old to sign a new deal. However, their attempts have been unsuccessful, with Onyedika reportedly refusing to commit his future to the Belgian champions.
The midfielder’s current contract is approaching its final year, prompting Club Brugge to reconsider their position on his future. The report says the Belgian champions are now open to selling the Nigerian in order to avoid losing him for nothing when his contract expires.
Eintracht Frankfurt are understood to be among the clubs interested in securing his services. Club Brugge previously rejected an offer from the German club and are reportedly demanding at least €10 million for the midfielder.
Onyedika was also close to leaving the Belgian champions last season when another German Bundesliga side, Wolfsburg, reportedly submitted a €15 million offer for him. However, Club Brugge rejected that proposal.
The Nigerian midfielder has continued to attract strong interest from Germany, with Frankfurt reportedly renewing their efforts to sign him. Reports in Germany indicate that Onyedika has already reached an agreement in principle with the Bundesliga club, although negotiations over a transfer fee with Club Brugge are still ongoing.
Onyedika joined Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in 2022 and quickly became an important player for the Belgian champions. He has since established himself as a regular for both club and country.
