Sevilla Vs Rayo Vallecano: Iheanacho seeking to become the 28th Nigerian to score in LaLiga, may play as a winger
Kelechi Iheanacho will be looking to score his first goal in LaLiga, the Spanish topflight league when his club, Sevilla host Ray Vallecano at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.
The 28-year-old joined Sevilla in July as a free agent after 10 years in England and will be hoping to open his LaLiga account this Sunday.
The Nigerian will have to play as a winger to achieve that after his gaffer, Xavi García Pimienta hinted at his pre-match press conference the former Leicester City forward could be deployed as a winger.
On the options for wingers and the possibility of Iheanacho playing there against, the said “We have Lukebakio, Jesús, Suso. Isra has got a shoulder injury. Iheanacho played there in the last match and did well despite it not being his natural position.’
If he scores, it will not only be his first in the LaLiga in his first season, but also his first league goal since he scored for Leicester City in their 3-1 defeat of Swansea City in a Sky Bet Championship game in October 2023.
He will also become the 28th Nigerian to score in the competition and the 10th to score at least one goal.
Christopher Ohen remains the Nigerian with the most goals with the 46 he scored in 108 games with Finidi George and Ikechukwu Uche joint second with 43 goals while Kalu Uche is third with 38 goals.
