Super Falcons Intensify WAFCON Preparations as 19 Players Arrive in Morocco
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have intensified their preparations for the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with 19 of the 25 players now in camp ahead of their opening match against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28.
The team held an evening training session at the La Noria Club in Casablanca on Sunday, with 15 players taking part as more members of the squad continued to arrive at the Hotel Marriott.
Sweden-based duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa joined the team in Casablanca, while Pachuca Tuzas defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo were also on their way to Morocco.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Shukurat Oladipo, Oluwatosin Demehin and Christy Ucheibe, midfielders Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, as well as forwards Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Omorinsola Babajide, were among the players who arrived earlier.
With the final phase of preparations now gathering pace, only six players are still expected to join the defending champions in Morocco.
The remaining players are defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, forwards Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Uchenna Kanu.
The Super Falcons will begin their title defence against Malawi on July 28 before continuing their Group C campaign against Zambia and Egypt.
