Modric: I Feel Ashamed After England 7-0 Rout

Luka Modrić has admitted he felt ashamed for the first time in his 20-year Croatia career after England inflicted a humiliating 7-0 defeat on the European giants on Saturday.
The Croatia captain struggled to hide his disappointment after England ran riot in Rijeka, describing the manner of the defeat as unacceptable and damaging to the country’s reputation.
‘You can lose. They’re better than us. But to lose like this and damage our reputation in this way… It’s unacceptable,’ Modrić said, according to Croatian outlet Index.
‘I’ve been here for 20 years and I have to say that, for the first time, I feel ashamed after a game.’
The 41-year-old midfielder also took responsibility for the heavy defeat and urged his teammates to remain united.
‘We shouldn’t blame each other. We should stick together through this, as we always have,’ he said.
‘We’ve suffered heavy defeats before, but the feeling after a game like this is completely different. I’ve never felt this way before. I apologise.’
England scored seven unanswered goals in a devastating display, with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka both scoring twice, while Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers also found the net.
Croatia must now recover quickly, with Spain awaiting them in their next Nations League fixture on Tuesday.
